It could be a long story how Qi, a Chinese descent and a Dutch national, and Lars, a Dane growing up in Greenland and then 13 years in Asia, ended up building the Qimisola winery in Bionzo. 

 

 It could also be a rather simple story: we went to Piemonte on a holiday trip and fell in love with the place, the people, the food, and the wine.  As Lars always had the dream to make his own wine, and Qi always had a passion for Italian food and the Italian language, we set out to pursue our dream.

 

The decision was the easy part.  The hard part was to find a suitable property first and later the tremendous work to upgrade the property as well as the vineyards.  We wanted a place with vineyards in the right location and position, but we also wanted a property with history and the potential to be developed into a modern winery and family home.

 

After looking around for more than 2 years, on a detour we stumbled over an “ugly duckling” property in the small hamlet of Bionzo. Despite the despair condition, we saw the great potential and with the help of local craftsmen, we were able to unveil the original beauty of the property and create the Qimisola winery of today.
