The Platinum award for "sensational" il Babbo

Updated: Jul 4, 2023

We are overjoyed by the incredible achievement of our "il Babbo" Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore 2018 winning the highest platinum prize and 97 points in the 2023 Decanter World Wine Awards!

The Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA), the largest and most influential wine competition with more than 18,000 wines worldwide evaluated by sommeliers and masters-of-wines. Only totally 250 wines received the platinum medal, and il Babbo being one of the 28 platinum winners from Italy (from 2777 submits), one of only the seven from Piemonte and the only barbera wine in the whole competition scoring platinum/97 points, is an extraordinary feat for our little artisanal Qimisola winery!

When Lars embarked on his wine-making journey in 2015, little did we know that it would lead us to this. The name "il Babbo" holds a special significance for us, as it reflects the spirit of the Hans Christian fairy tale - What the old man does is always right. We chose this name, hoping our wines embody wisdom, quality, and timeless appeal - and also Qi's personal faith in (the not so old yet!) Lars' wine-making :-).

It's evident that our il Babbo wine holds a special place in the hearts of our loyal Qimisola friends and it is great see see that the recognition is shared by the wine professionals in the DWWA panel.

Lars also submitted two other wines: "i Fratelli" Barbera d'Asti DOCG Superiore 2019, which won the Silver award and respectable 92 points and "l'Usignolo" DOC Calosso Gamba di Pernice 2019, which won the bronze price and 89 points.

Receiving such an honor from the Decanter World Wine Awards fills us with immense joy, gratitude, and motivation to continue our hard work and establish our signature in the wine-making world. May this achievement serve as a stepping stone towards even greater Qimisola wines in the future. Cin cin!
